Can you tell what it is yet?

You may have already seen our new logo appear on our new advert in the January 2011 issue of Counsel Magazine...

Our new advert design for 2011 in Counsel Magazine

If you haven’t seen it before please do have a little look at the ICLR seal. We are proud to re-introduce this iconic emblem, which we first used in 1870 when the Council of Law Reporting became an Incorporated organisation.

Our original ICLR seal

The vintage original has been given a 21st century tweak to ensure clarity in the finer details.

The new take on our original seal

What makes this little image exceptionally special is that all of the smaller logos within the seal denote the main legal bodies that founded the ICLR. It is a testament to our history and symbol for our future.

We would love to test your knowledge and legal history today... Can you identify all of the symbols that make up the ICLR seal?

The first person to comment with the seven (yes, seven) correct answers will win an ICLR Goody Bag!

The Only Way is Essex Street!

Before Christmas you may have seen us tweet about the Lord Chief Justice’s decision to allow Twitter in Court, as long as the online updates do not disturb any court proceedings. Wow, how times have changed! I personally think that it’s fantastic that up to the minute updates will be heading out across cyber space from major cases but I do wonder if everyone will feel the same as me.

This is quite a leap for the justice system, considering that in the UK we still do not allow people to take photographs or film in court. Now that the judiciary are “getting down” with such Social Medias I’m beginning to think what will be next for law, will it embrace other exciting aspects of popular culture. Perhaps the ICLR could be the first to suggest a new legal docusoap... “The Only way is Essex Street”?!? I’d certainly tune into to a fly on the wall documentary charting the highs and lows of life in Chambers opposite the Royal Courts of Justice.

As well as being excited by the courts new found appreciation of Twitter, we at the ICLR are thrilled to announce that we too are starting to move with the times. Our new logo has been confirmed and our new user-friendly website is currently being tweaked. We hope to bring you both our new look and new site soon!

Happy New Year to all our readers from the ICLR.
